How Does Trailing Work?
Trailing K-9s are used to find a specific person. These canines use a scent article taken or left by the subject and follow the trail left by the subject. They generally are not tracking dogs, meaning they may not track the subject step for step, instead they use a combination of air and ground scenting to locate the subject. Trailing dogs work on leash and are most effective in finding specific subjects with a known last location.

By (1) having a scent article already made up with a recent picture attached, (2) the identification card filled out and (3) the “What Do I Do” card at hand you can greatly increase the odds of a quick find substantially.
