I Have a Missing Pet

sighting, missing dog, missing cat, tracking, trailing, texas, search and rescue

If there is a reported sighting within the past 24-48 hours, you don't need a tracker, you need a trapper so reach out to one of our Community Partners for help;

We recommend you always IMMEDIATELY preserve a scent article in an unscented bag, just in case you do hire a K9 Tracker. What is a Scent Article? Think bed, blanket, collar, harness or a brush w/ their hair. If you have a multi-pet household, the articles will still work if the other pets didn't leave the yard!

Here are the next steps once you have that scent article packed up in an unscented bag:

  1. File a Lost Pet Report with your local shelters, most are required to hold all incoming animals for 72 hours so keep checking in!
  2. Post your Pet on every social media outlet (ex. NextDoor, Neighbors by Ring, FB, Paw Boost, etc.). For a list of our favorites, see below.
  3. Contact your microchip company and report your pet missing.
  4. Hang up flyers! *Your goal is 50 - 100 flyers within a 2-5 mile radius from Point of Loss and/or Last Sighting, you want bright colors and we recommend offering a reward! We can help with these, ask during your consult!
  5. Contact a K9 Tracker to help in the process of locating your Pet.
  6. Schedule your Track, learn what to expect below.
  7. Follow your Trackers Action Plan, try to be patient and proactive as you follow their recommendations.
  8. Keep in touch with your Tracker, as we get busy. There are so many missing pets, but always know your pet is important to us!

Frequently Asked Questions

We have answers to more of our Frequently Asked Questions on our FAQ page. Please reach out to us at kimberly@k9trackers.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A track/trail dog follows a specific odor from a missing pet in the air or on the ground starting at the “point of loss.” Our dogs can identify the direction of travel and the area in which the missing pet has been, and can even determine if the pet was removed from the area.

We don’t tend to walk up on your Pet during the Track because they are animals, they are typically moving to prevent being prey. However, some pets do hunker down and stay down if caught, older, injured and/or just ready to be caught.

There might be sightings during a Track, but that doesn’t mean we will catch your Pet during that Track because they are most likely in Flight Mode. Remember, everything must seem scary to your Pet and they are simply trying to survive!

If we do see your pet during the track, make sure to implement Calming Strategies!  Get LOW to the ground, be QUIET and STILL, give your pet a chance to SMELL you... when you see your pet RECOGNIZE you REMAIN CALM until they are SAFE IN YOUR ARMS!

Even if there is no sighting, out Tracker should be able to identify a direction of travel and/or an area the animal has traveled to and is moving around in/been removed from.

There is a non-refundable deposit of $150 for holding your appointment time.  You will get a full refund of the reamining balance, unless the Tracker has already left home. Then, you may lose a portion of the mileage depending on how far the Tracker has already traveled.

We'd love to help you find your lost pet! First, make sure to check out our Tracking Fees then fill out our Client Inquiry Form and someone will reach out to set up your FREE consultation.
